Storage facility spontaneously combusts in El Paso

Posted on October 20th, 2010 No Comments

Earlier this month, a fire broke out at a storage facility in El Paso after a cardboard box of oily rags spontaneously combusted.

According to El Paso fire department officials, 40 firefighters arrived at the L&M Radiator Co. storage facility at 8PM Saturday, October 9th.  It took the firefighters around 20 minutes to put out the fire which caused heavy smoke and some flames to come out of the building.

After investigating, it was determined that the fire was caused by a box of oily rags stored in the facility.  Storing oily materials in combustible containers, like a cardboard box, can be extremely dangerous.  Investigators estimate that the building suffered $70,000 worth of structural damage.
