Oldest dance hall in TX destroyed in fire

Club 21, the oldest remaining dance hall operating in Texas, was destroyed in a fire caused by a traffic accident early Sunday morning.  Club 21 is located in Uhland, Texas 20 miles south of Austin and was built in 1893.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the two-car accident occurred around 2:30 A.M. in front of the dance hall.  One of the vehicles crashed into the front of the club and started the fire.  The dance hall and bar were not open at the time of the accident.

40 firefighters from 7 different area fire departments responded at the scene to contain the fire.
