North Austin apartment complex catches fire, 43 displaced

Last Thursday evening, the Silvervale Aparments located in North Austin caught fire.  Investigations determined that a cigarette that was not properly put out caused the blaze.

Firefighters arrived at the apartments around 5 P.M. on Thursday to see 22 out of the apartment’s 24 units occupied.  Rescuers helped the apartment’s occupants out to safety and no injuries were reported from the fire.  3 of the complex’s units were severely damaged from the fire and 11 others were damaged from smoke and water damage caused by the fire.

Experts estimate damages to the apartment complex around $200,000 and $30,000 in content damage.  34 adults and 9 children were left homeless after the fire.
