Old Del Valle school building catches fire

Posted on December 2nd, 2010 No Comments

Last month, an old Del Valle Independent School District annex caught fire.  The building is located in a field off FM 973 and Texas 71.

Austin firefighters received a call around 4:50 P.M. on Monday, November 20th that the building was in flames.  Firefighters were able to control the blaze in just under an hour.  Fire officials were unsure of what caused the fire but will continue investigations.  FM 973 was shut down for about an hour while Austin firefighters worked to stop the fire, causing significant traffic delays for drivers near the airport.

Battalion chief Thayer Smith stated, “It looked impressive for a few minutes just because there was a lot of smoke.  But we knocked it down quickly and it was confined to one end of the building”.

It is important to keep fire sprinkler systems in large commercial or institutional buildings in good condition.  Contact the Austin fire sprinkler inspection specialists of Ace Fire Equipment at 512-835-2020 today to learn more.
